examination of conscience
   This word (from the Latin examen, meaning "a weighing" or "testing") refers to a personal, private, and prayerful review of one's thoughts, words, and deeds to determine how one has been responding to the Gospel. Some people examine their conscience daily, but everyone should examine their conscience prior to receiving the sacramentof Reconciliation. (See CCC 1454)
